Creator and Founder: “The Earth is the LORD’s” (vs. 1-2)

Pre-Script
A Psalm
of David
Land (v. 1)
The earth- the planet
is the LORD’s
and the fulness thereof- all that fills it, there is nothing on the earth that is not the LORDS
the world- the people
and those who dwell therein
Water (v. 2)
For
he has founded it- foundation,
Psalm 104:5 “He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved.”
upon the seas
Genesis 1:9 “And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.”
and established it
upon the rivers

Engage the Heart (humility vs. pride):
There is nothing that exists on the planet that is not the LORD’s. Think about that for a minute...
Creation Ministries is coming to our Anniversary Bible Conference this year in October to tell us a little more about God’s design in all that has been created.
You may say yes pastor Jeremy, but that does not mean that everyone belongs to God as a part of His family or that the world is following the foundation…Correct. But don’t be deceived. It is a common narative for companies, churches, schools, and other works and ministries to move away from the intended meaning of the founder. Well let’s look at the intent or requirement of the founder for His creation
Enilist the Body (faith steps):
Here is your faith step today, stop and take a look around you as you go for a walk, drive, run, bike ride, or google search. Say, “God this all belongs to You!”
Transitional phrase: David begins by acknowledging God as the Creator and Founder of everything that has been created. That is one stipulation for the king of glory. But what about his character? Who is this king of glory…?

Clean and Faithful: “The Hill of the LORD” (vs. 3-6)

Two Questions (v. 3)
Who shall
ascend the hill of the LORD?- Who will “go up” or “climb” the hill of the LORD? Who will lead out? The idea here is a continual motion.
Abraham ascended a hill (Gen. 22)
Moses ascended a hill/Mountain (Ex. 19)
Elijah ascended a hill, Mt. Carmel (1 Kings 18:20-40)
Jonathan and his armourbearer ascended a cliff (1 Sam 14: 13-14)
David speaks of this also in (Ps. 15:1-5)
It would seem that the life of David represents the top of the hill, the holy place of the LORD and what comes after him is coming down the hill.
Who shall
stand in his holy place? Who can stand/belong.
Priest/Levi: days of preparation, cloths, bathing, separation
The Answer: 2 positive, 2 negative (v. 4)
He
who has clean hands- “external obedience”, clean hands in the bible is a reference to spiritual purity. Most, if not all, references to bathing and washing in the Bible are a reference to spiritual purity, not hygenic practice, in preparation to being in the presence of God or being around His people.
Covid-19 taught us to wash our hands
Ex 19, Lev. 19, Num 19, taught them to wash their hearts.
who has a pure heart- “internal desire”, Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” David is great at being all-encompassing.
who does not lift up his soul (throat; neck; breath) to what is false- “internal commitment”, he or she does not raise from a lower to a higher position what is false. Uncompromised worship!
and does not swear (promise, not cuss) deceitfully- “external commitment”, words of my mouth.
Deuteronomy 10:12 ““And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,”
Isaiah 33:15 “He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking on evil,”
Micah 6:8 “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
The Blessing (vs. 5-6)
He will receive- individual, “He”
blessing from the LORD- like Abraham
and rightesousness from the God of his salvation
such is the generation of those- collectively
who seek him
who seek the face of the God of Jacob
Selah- Tune your heartstrings to what you just heard before we move on to the next part.

Engage the Heart (humility vs. pride):
The metaphor of a hill, “uphill battle”, “it was all uphill”, “I have a hill to climb”, etc.
Interesting that David would use “the Hill of the LORD”. Jerusalem is on a hill, but there is another hill that is significant, the hill of calvary.
Peter, James and John ascended a hill (Matt. 17:1-9; Mark 9:2-9; Luke 9:28-36)
Jesus ascended a hill (Calvary) later He would ascend the Mt. of Transfiguration and ultimately to Heaven!
When you hear these things about the one who shall ascend the hill of the LORD and stand in His holy place do you think to yourself, “I can do that!” or “There is no way that I could ever do that”.
Enilist the Body (faith steps):
Where are you in the climb today? take your hand and put it in one of three positions: up, flat, or down.
Transitional phrase: Who can really ascend the Holy Hill? Who can really stand before God the creator and founder of our world and our souls?

Coming: “The King of Glory” (vs. 7-10)

He wants in! (v. 7)
Lift up your heads, O gates! The entry place to the city
and be lifted up, O ancient doors- When were the doors closed?
that the king of glory may come in
1 Corinthians 2:8 “None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”
Who is He? (v. 8)
Who is this king of Glory
The LORD
strong
and mighty
The LORD
Mighty in battle
He wants in! (v. 9)
Life up your heads, O gates!
and lift them up, O ancient doors
that the King of glory may come in
Who is He? (v. 10)
Who is this king of glory?
The LORD of Hosts
he is the King of glory!
Selah- stop, pause, tune your heart strings.

Engage the Heart (humility vs. pride):
Is the gate of your mind closed today? Is the door of your heart closed in defence? “Behold I stand at the door and knock!” was said by Jesus to the church, not the unbeliever in Rev 3. To the church in Laodicea because they were luke warm because they they thought they were rich, having prospered, need nothing, not relizing that they were wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. They did not take the counsel of Jesus.
Lift up the gate of your eyes today, lift up the door of your heart! Jesus, the king of glory, is coming again!
Enilist the Body (faith steps):
Transitional phrase:
Summary: Jesus is the King of Glory
Discussion Starters:
How present is the creator/founder in my life today?
Where am I in the “climb” of life today?
What position are the gates/doors of my mind/heart in today?
